Article Types

Dentaphora: Journal of Dental Perspectives and Oral Health (Dentaphora JDPOH) publishes rigorous, ethically conducted scholarship that advances dental research, clinical practice, disease prevention, and oral health. Original research articles are the journal's principal manuscript type.

ORIGINAL RESEARCH PRIORITY SCIENTIFIC CONTRIBUTION REQUIRED OTHER FORMATS SELECTIVE

The journal gives priority to Original Research Articles. Review Articles, Case Reports, and Short Communications are considered selectively when they address a significant question in dentistry or oral health, meet applicable reporting and ethical standards, and offer meaningful scientific or clinical insight.

Core Scientific Requirements

All submitted manuscripts should satisfy the scientific and ethical requirements relevant to their study design:

✓A clearly defined dental or oral-health problem and its scientific or clinical significance
✓An appropriate account of current evidence and the relevant state of the art
✓A clear research gap, clinical rationale, or justification of scholarly contribution
✓Explicit study objectives or review questions
✓Appropriate methods and transparent reporting of data, analysis, or evidence synthesis
✓Evidence-based conclusions, with ethical approval and informed consent where applicable
Editorial consideration: Manuscripts may be returned for revision or declined before peer review when they lack a clear objective, adequate methodological detail, sufficient evidence, appropriate ethical documentation, or a meaningful contribution to the field.
1 Original Research Article PRIMARY TYPE

Original Research Articles are the preferred submission category. They present previously unpublished results obtained through a systematic investigation relevant to dental science, clinical dentistry, oral biology, dental materials, preventive dentistry, public oral health, or related areas.

Expected characteristics
  • An introduction establishing the dental or oral-health problem, current evidence, and research gap
  • Clearly formulated research objectives, research questions, or hypotheses, as appropriate
  • A sufficiently detailed study design, setting, participants or specimens, procedures, and outcome measures
  • Appropriate statistical or qualitative analyses, including an explanation of how findings were evaluated
  • Clear presentation of the results with relevant tables, figures, or clinical measurements when useful
  • A critical discussion of findings in relation to previous evidence, study limitations, and clinical or scientific implications
  • Ethics committee approval or an appropriate exemption, consent, trial registration, and relevant reporting guidelines when applicable
Recommended structure: Introduction → Materials and Methods → Results → Discussion → Conclusion → Declarations → References.
2 Review Article SELECTIVE

Review Articles are considered when they provide a critical and original synthesis of evidence on a clearly defined problem in dentistry or oral health. Depending on the research question, appropriate formats may include systematic reviews, meta-analyses, scoping reviews, or critically developed narrative reviews.

Expected characteristics
  • A clearly stated review objective or question and a justified review approach
  • A transparent description of literature sources, search strategy, eligibility criteria, and study-selection methods appropriate to the type of review
  • Critical appraisal or evaluation of evidence quality and limitations when appropriate
  • An integrated synthesis that goes beyond listing or paraphrasing previous publications
  • Identification of evidence gaps and meaningful implications for dental research, clinical practice, or oral-health policy
  • Use of relevant reporting standards, such as PRISMA, when applicable
Not acceptable: Descriptive literature summaries that lack a defined analytical purpose, critical synthesis, or clear scholarly contribution.
3 Case Report LIMITED

Case Reports are considered selectively when an individual clinical case offers an important diagnostic, therapeutic, procedural, or educational insight with relevance beyond the individual patient. Suitable cases may involve uncommon conditions, unexpected treatment outcomes, novel clinical approaches, or clinically significant complications.

Expected characteristics
  • A clear explanation of what makes the case unusual, instructive, or relevant to clinical dentistry
  • Sufficient clinical history, examination findings, diagnostic assessment, and treatment details
  • A coherent clinical timeline and appropriate documentation of the intervention and follow-up
  • A discussion relating clinical decisions and outcomes to the relevant dental literature
  • Clear acknowledgment of clinical limitations and the conclusions that can reasonably be drawn
  • Protection of patient privacy and documented informed consent for publication whenever required; use of the CARE guideline where appropriate
Not acceptable: Routine case descriptions with no substantive clinical lesson, inadequate diagnostic or follow-up detail, or identifiable patient information disclosed without the required consent.
4 Short Communication LIMITED

Short Communications report concise, scientifically relevant original findings in dentistry or oral health that merit timely dissemination but do not require a full-length Original Research Article. They are subject to the same expectations of research integrity and methodological transparency as full research papers.

Minimum scientific elements
✓Clear research objective and context
✓Adequate description of design and methods
✓Sufficient data and appropriate analysis
✓Key findings and their scientific or clinical significance
✓Limitations and evidence-based conclusion
✓Ethical documentation where applicable
Editorial consideration: Brevity does not substitute for rigorous methodology or sufficient evidence. A concise submission that is purely preliminary or speculative may not be suitable.

Manuscript Type Priority

Manuscript Type Priority Main Requirement
Original Research Article HIGH Original results, sound methods, clear research gap, and meaningful scientific contribution
Review Article SELECTIVE Defined question, transparent methodology, critical evidence synthesis, and implications
Case Report LIMITED Clinically significant insight, adequate case documentation, and patient privacy and consent safeguards
Short Communication LIMITED Brief but complete original evidence, appropriate analysis, and clear relevance

Manuscripts Not Considered

The following submissions do not meet the journal's editorial expectations:

  • Manuscripts outside the scope of dentistry, dental science, and oral health
  • Purely descriptive reports or surveys without an adequate research objective, analysis, or scientific contribution
  • Unsupported clinical claims, promotional product descriptions, or anecdotal treatment claims without appropriate evidence
  • Literature summaries without a clear analytical method, critical assessment, or synthesis
  • Routine case reports that do not offer a meaningful diagnostic, therapeutic, or educational contribution
  • Clinical case material that compromises patient confidentiality or lacks consent for publication when required
  • Studies lacking relevant ethical approval, an appropriate exemption, or essential research integrity documentation when applicable
  • Work with insufficient methodological detail to assess the validity or reproducibility of the findings
  • Conference abstracts or preliminary summaries not developed into a substantive manuscript
  • Plagiarized, duplicated, or previously published work, and manuscripts under simultaneous consideration by another journal
Editorial Principle

Dentaphora JDPOH prioritizes scientifically sound, clinically relevant, and ethically responsible contributions that advance understanding, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment in dentistry and oral health. All manuscript types must be aligned with the journal's focus and scope and provide a defensible contribution supported by appropriate evidence.
